Obituary of Mary E. (Fisher) Ramsdell

CANASTOTA, NY
Mary E. (Fisher) Ramsdell, 94, of Canastota, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Extended Care Facility in Oneida.
She was born on May 28, 1927 in Canastota, daughter of the late Albert and Nellie (Ray) Fisher.
Mary received her education in Canastota, graduating from Canastota High Schools in 1944.
On July 17, 1948, in Canastota, she married Ward C. Ramsdell. The couple shared a union blessed with over 50 years of marriage prior to Mr. Ramsdell’s passing on January 13, 1999.
Mrs. Ramsdell enjoyed a position as the Executive Secretary at Clark’s Petroleum for many years prior to her retirement in 1991.
Mary’s favorite times were spent with her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge, cooking, and baking, especially her legendary pies. Her memberships included the Canastota Lionettes, Canastota Canal Town, St. Agatha’s Bereavement Ministry, the Red Hat Society, and the Canastota Library Bridge Players.
She loved her constant cat buddies in her later years, her beloved “Scooby” and “Adler”. Her love of animals persisted throughout her life, starting with her horses on the family farm, and continued into her later years with a special place in her heart for donkeys. She contributed to many, many animal charities.
Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Tornatore of Virginia Beach, VA, Christy Ramsdell of Syracuse, Mary Jo and Robert Newberry of Munnsville, and Julie Ramsdell of Bedford, MA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Patricia Ramsdell of Cazenovia, and James Ramsdell and Donna Mariano of Canastota; eleven grandchildren, Christopher “Kirs” Kinsella, Zarin Kinsella, Dylan Kinsella, Zachary Kinsella, Garrison Ramsdell, Kathlin Wolfe, Tara Canaway, Timothy Newberry, Jesse Campbell, Eliza Miller, and Stella Miller; fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Richard Fisher; and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at St. Agatha’s Church, 329 North Peterboro Street, Canastota where a Funeral Mass will be held. The Rev. Christopher Ballard will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 9:00 – 11:00am at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, 201 James Street, Canastota.
