CANASTOTA . . .
Allen S. "Al" Minckler, 85, of Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 11, 2018, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, following a brief illness.
He was born on July 27, 1932, in Stalker, PA, a son of the late Sanford and Erma (Williams) Minckler.
Al spent his early years in Pennsylvania and Long Eddy, NY, graduating from Delaware Valley Central High School. He later attended Coyne University in Chicago. Al, also, lived in Syracuse for 10 years, Spring Hill, FL, for 28 years, and had recently moved back to Canastota.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving overseas with the US Navy.
Al worked as an International Representative for the International Brotherhood of Electricians (IBEW) in Washington, DC, for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
He had been a member of the Kiwanis Club in Callicoon, NY, and the American Legion in Ocala, FL.
Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He married Geraldine "Geri" Popolillo on May 3, 1952, in Long Eddy, NY.
Surviving besides his wife, Geri, are: one son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Michelle Minckler of Bernard's Bay; two brothers and a sister-in-law, David Minckler of Hernando, FL, and Gerald, Sr., and Margaret Minckler of Long Eddy, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Al was predeceased by two sons, John Minckler and Bruce Minckler; two brothers, Alvin Minckler and Alfred Minckler; and four sisters, Alice Johnston, Wanda Hendricks, Bertha Swendsen, and Edith Fuller.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the New Life Assembly of God, 4704 State Route 365, Oneida, NY 13421. Pastor Daniel King will officiate. At Al's request, there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to New Life Assembly of God, with envelopes available at the service.
