Obituary of James H. Mason

COLDBROOK . . . James H. Mason, 74, of Coldbrook, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, Utica, following a brief illness. He was born on January 28, 1948, in Oneida, the son of the late Clarence and Harryette (Sterling) Mason. Jim spent his early years in Oneida, graduating from Oneida High School in 1967. He has lived in Coldbrook most of his life. He is a Vietnam Veteran, serving overseas in the United States Navy. Jim has been a General Contractor in Central New York for many years. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim married Alma (Perry) Burns on January 25, 1993, in Poland, NY. Alma passed away on March 2, 2020. He is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Shannon Burns of Coldbrook; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kristina DeFazio of Oneida, and Tracey and Matthew Payne of Oneida; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Amy Mason of Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Robert Eisenberg of Oneida; eleven grandchildren, Sierra DeFazio, Christopher DeFazio, Tiffany Erb, Kristy Driscoll, Annabelle Payne, Mitchell Burns, Collin Burns and Amanda Dineen, Derek and Abigail Burns, Charlene Burns, Claire Burns, and Chloe Burns; seven great grandchildren, Ivory Tornatore, Mason James Burns, Brynnamae Burns, Shane Dietrich, Austin Erb, Justin Erb, and JR Boga; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Donna Chapman of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church will officiate.
