Obituary of Earle L. Coon
WHITELAW . . .
Earle L. Coon, 89, of 2714 Waterbury Road, Canastota (Whitelaw), passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018, at his home, following a brief illness.
He was born on December 21, 1928, in Canastota, the son of the late Vernon and Florence (Sherman) Coon.
Earle has lived in the Whitelaw area all his life, attending the Canastota schools.
He was a heavy equipment operator, and had worked for Tobin Construction, Baron Construction, and Hall Corporation, all of Syracuse; Tioga Construction in Herkimer for six years, and for A.W. Kinkaid Well Drilling of Canastota for 22 years.
Earle was a Korean War veteran, serving overseas with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the VFW Memorial Post #600 in Canastota, the Disabled American Veterans Charles C. Paone Chapter #211 of Liverpool, and the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, where he had been a trustee for many years.
He especially enjoyed traveling, keeping busy, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Earle married Mary L. Goodell on October 21, 1950, in Bridgeport. Mary passed away on September 20, 2012.
Surviving are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Janet Coon, and Philip and Maryellen Coon, all of Whitelaw; a brother-in-law, Sidney Wilson of Canastota; a sister-in-law, Audrey Button of Bradenton, FL; five grandchildren, Jason Coon, T.J. Coon, Kelly Coon, Josh Coon, and Amanda Coon; eleven great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Earle was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur Coon, Lester Coon, and Gordon Coon; and a sister, Gertrude Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, 8665 N. Main Street, Canastota. Pastor Donna Chapman will officiate. Burial will be in Whitelaw Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, 8665 N. Main Street, Canastota, NY 13032, or to Clear Path for Veterans, 1223 Salt Springs Road, Chittenango, NY 13037, with envelopes available at the funeral home and church.
