Beverly H. "Bumbie" Torrey, 80, of 2887 State Route 31, Canastota, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at her home.
She was born on January 16, 1942, in Tunnel, NY, the daughter of the late Richard "Bill" and Gladys "Midge" (Warner) Hamilton.
Bev spent her early years in Chenango Bridge, NY, attending the Chenango Valley schools. She later lived in Triangle, NY, and had lived in the Canastota area most of her life. Bev wintered in Holiday, FL, for many years, and was president of the Ladies Club at the Buena Vista Manor.
She worked as an International Correspondent for the Raymond Corporation in East Syracuse for 25 years, retiring in 2007.
Bev's family was always the most important to her, and she enjoyed ceramics, Bingo, making no-sew blankets for everyone, and playing cards and games.
She had been a member of the Holiday Free Methodist Church in Florida.
Bev first married William F. Saunders in 1958, and they had four children together. She married Charles R. Percival on May 29, 1976 in Whitelaw. Charles passed away on June 7, 1985. Bev later married Burr A. Torrey on October 11, 1998, in Canastota. Burr passed away on March 1, 2006.
Surviving are: one daughter, Susan Whitmeyer and her fiancé, Ronald Poland, of Verona; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Tammy Saunders of Central Square, and Keith and Beth Saunders of Whitelaw; one brother and four sister-in-law, William and Janet Hamilton of Alabama, Patsy Schmidt, Jane Schmidt, and Kim Hamilton; two sisters, Carol Secoolish of Chenango Forks, and Eloise Albro of Watkins Glen; ten grandchildren, Sara Smith, Joyce Leinberger, Robert K. Whitmeyer Jr., Cory N. McAllister, Sydney N. Graham, Samantha J. Saunders, Dakota R. McAllister, Moriah E. Saunders, Austin J. Saunders, and Nathan R. Saunders; fifteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins; seven step-children, Bruce Percival, Jeff and Kim Percival, Billy and Donna Percival, Eloise Percival, Paul Torrey, Richard Torrey, and David Torrey. Beverly was predeceased by a daughter, Donna McAllister; one step-son, Paul Percival; and three brothers, Albert F. Schmidt, Robert D. Schmidt, and Richard W. Hamilton.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the funeral home. The Rev. Eddie Maslin will officiate. Burial will be in Whitelaw Cemetery, Canastota.
