Dad, you’ll always be in my memory. Every time Jade and I walked in the house you’d always be so excited to see me and say “Halie!” I’ll never forget how you always had a smile every-time I saw you. You were always so kind and loving. I remember when Jade and I helped you pull the deer out of the woods last year too… and then we got stuck in the mud. We’re all gonna miss you like crazy. Love you dad

I’ll never forget the time that Stu wanted to come to my house and watch a Buffalo Sabers game with me and my two boys. Shortly before he was due to arrive, he called and said he had a flat tire but was close by. I jumped in my truck with my air compressor to rescue him, only to find out that he had about a 4 inch gash in the tire and we couldn’t get the spare tire loose. We called a tow truck and went back to the house to watch the game. Even with all that going on, he was happy to be sitting with me and my boys, watching a game together. The only thing he was worried about was “Moms going to be pissed!!” I already miss the goofy snaps, rants about the Sabers and hunting stories! He was and always will be a great guy and will be truly missed! We all love you bud and will see you when it’s our turn to join you!

Q: What will you never forget about Stuart?
A: When I first met the Shimer family I was instantly welcome into the family. Stu would always welcome me at the door or offer something to drink. I remember several year back, I was working on a hot night. As usual, Stu texted me to make sure I was safe and to ask if I needed anything. I said I was starving but it would have to wait until I was done at work as I was extremely busy that day. Within 20 minutes I hear a knock at the station door. To my surprise Stu was standing there with food, a drink and a giant a smile. He said, “I can’t have my daughter going hungry but make sure you bring mama’s containers back or she will come after you.”
Throughout the last several years, moments like that will always bring me happiness. Stu was one strong example of determination and courage. I am so grateful and honored to be considered his adopted daughter.

My dad was someone who worked hard and well we might even say too much but he would do anything for anyone in an instance. I understand why my sister is always so busy, she is just like my father. The second they wake up they are making plans for the day and jumping right in. He liked to keep busy.
He loved his four wheeling (even though half the time the thing didn’t work ) and he sure loved his hunting. I’ll never forget the time he lost his keys in the woods and we had spent hours looking for them. Oh we were so mad, but it sure was another crazy adventure with dad. He loved to golf, bowl, camp and fish.
I use to call my dad my Duber or my Duber eats because if I needed a ride or food he was always right there. The fee was much cheaper than a real Uber all it cost was a hug and a kiss.
Some of you may know when I was 13 my dad traded in his 1995 Harley Davidson fat boy for a pile of junk car and boy was I mad. My little legs could finally reach the pegs so I could go for longer rides. Well I didn’t talk to him for two months. I just hope he knows I forgive him for that.
The most important thing my dad did was love us girls and mom. He taught us how to work hard and never give up. I mean if it wasn’t for my dad teaching me how to upsell I wouldn’t be where I am now in the finance industry. He taught us to go after our dreams and we both have done just that. He was the proudest father there was. He loved us way too big too much.
While I never got to give him biological grandkids I watched him become a papa stuie to little miss bailee. He was the best papa and cared for her greatly. She was his bay bay as he would call her. It gave me a glimpse of how he was with us as kids.
He fought 3 long years the hardest battle of his life yet he remained so positive and so strong. I just hope one day I can be as strong as him. Things will certainly be different without him but I know he will always be with us.
