CANASTOTA . . . Mary C. Teachout, 96, 208 Third Street, Canastota, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Oneida Healthcare, following a brief illness. She was born February 1, 1927, in Watertown, the daughter of Quirino and Vincenza (Ruspi) Tavani. Mary lived in Watertown for many years, graduating from Watertown High School. She moved to Jamestown in 1950, later living in the Oneida area for 20 years. She has lived in Canastota since 1973. She was employed as a Toll Collector for the New York State Thruway Authority for 19 years, retiring in 1986. Mary was a member of the former Women of the Moose, Oneida Chapter #272. She enjoyed spending time at their camp in Lebanon, winters in Myrtle Beach, and spending time with her family. Mary married Fay E. Teachout on November 22, 1972, in Canastota. Fay passed away on March 23, 2023. Surviving are: two step-daughters, Sheila Fisher-Mutz and Frank Mutz, and Stacy Humennyj, all of Canastota; three grandchildren, Michael and Susan Fisher of Manlius, Brieanne Stokes and Nicole Serrano of Syracuse, and Brayde Humennyj of Syracuse; one great granddaughter, Gabriella Fisher; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was predeceased by three brothers, Orlando Tavani, Attilio Tavani, and Francis Tavani; and two sisters, Rose DeGaetano, and Ita Holenbrook. At Mary's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota, NY 13032. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Canastota Public Library, 102 W. Center Street, Canastota, NY 13032.
