Charles G. Cummins, 85, of 320 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at The Grand Rehabilitation & Nursing, Rome, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 24, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Mabel (Jenkins) Cummins.
Charles spent his early years in Sylvania, Ohio, graduating from Sylvania Burnham High School in 1956. He later lived in Syracuse, before moving to Canastota in 1967.
He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving overseas with the United States Air Force.
Charles worked for Carrier Corporation in Syracuse for 34 years, retiring in 2000.
He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.
Charles married Gabriele K. Huhndorf on October 24, 1964, in Bitburg, Germany.
Surviving besides his wife, Gabriele, are: two sons and daughters-in-law, Karl and Kimberly (Hart) Cummins of Hilton, NY, and Gerald and Pamela (Smith) Cummins of Chittenango; three grandchildren, Geoffrey, Nicole, and Alexandra Cummins; one brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Sue Cummins of Chicago, IL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charles was predeceased by a daughter, Suzanne Lowry-Taylor; and a sister, Gwynne Lazerek.
Calling hours will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. William M. Wilcox will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota.
