Obituary of Joyce Irene Cortes

CANASTOTA.... Joyce I. Cortes, 83, of 3351 Pine Ridge Road, Canastota, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at her home with her family at her side. She was born on December 27, 1940, the daughter of the late Theodore and Viola (Youman) Hart. Joyce spent her early years in Chittenango and Ballston Spa and has lived in Canastota most of her life. She worked at Oneida Limited in Sherrill for over thirty years, prior to her retirement. On May 1, 1965, in Canastota Joyce married Hector M. Cortes, Mr. Cortes passed away on July 25, 2022, after the couple shared in over fifty-seven Years of marriage. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Surviving are five sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Musacchio, David and Felicia Musacchio, and Michael and Thelma Musacchio, all of Canastota, Hector Cortes, Jr. of Chittenango, and Jose and Bonnie Cortes of Canastota, one daughter, Teresa Cortes; grandchildren, Jennifer Hook, Anthony, Brian, Mark, David, Michael, and Mark Musacchio, Tina Soto, Nicole, Lisa, Keisha, Danielle Musacchio, Brandy, Tiara, Tiffany, Cienna Cortes, Alex Shepard, Jose’, James, Troy Cortes, Alexander, Scott, Risa, Maiura; and a sister, Arlene Loomis both of Canastota. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Wilson Cortes of Morrisville, William Cortes of Rome, Jesus Domena of Jewel, Blanca “Margarita” Morris of Jacksonville, FL, and Clara and Ricardo Finney of Hawaii. Joyce was predeceased by a son, James Cortes; five brothers, William ‘Bill”, Theodore “Ted”, Paul, Charles “Butch, and David; and three sisters, Beverly Ruion, Elizabeth Chafee, and Carol Smith. Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
