Andrea D. “Andi” Mitchell, 79, of Canastota, passed away peacefully after a short illness, on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, NY, with her family at her side.
She was born on October 31, 1944, in Oneida, the daughter of the late Harry and Jennie (Lawless) Durfee.
Andi spent her early years in Munnsville, graduating from the Stockbridge Valley Central School in 1962. She later attended Morrisville Agricultural & Technical College. Andi has lived in Canastota since 1969.
She was the Treasurer of Canastota Central School for 21 years, retiring in 1999.
Andi enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota, a volunteer with the Bereavement Committee, and a money counter for many years.
Andi married Michael J. Mitchell on July 10, 1969, in Canastota.
Surviving besides her husband, Michael; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Michelle Mitchell of Verona; a daughter and son-in-law, MaryAnne and Donald Abernethy of Cicero; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Nancy Durfee; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marsha Brown of Whitney Point, and Vicki and William Andrews of Sherrill; six grandchildren, Jack and Ryan Mitchell, and Nathan, Erin, Molly and Riley Abernethy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Andi was predeceased by a brother, Harry W. Durfee.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Agatha’s Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, Mrs. Mitchell’s Funeral Mass will follow calling hours at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the church. Burial will follow in St. Agatha’s Cemetery, Canastota.
