Charles L. Cordell, 91, of Kirkville, passed away, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Abraham House of Rome, NY.
He was born on February 26, 1933, in Canastota, NY, a son of the late Glen and Dorothy (Phillips) Cordell.
Charles was raised and educated in Canastota. Mr. Cordell was a proud United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. On May 14, 1955, in East Syracuse, NY he married the former Virginia D. Argus, the couple shared in a union of over 59 years prior to Mrs. Cordell’s passing on December 11, 2014.
Mr. Cordell held a position as a Plater for General Super Plating in East Syracuse for more than thirty-five years, retiring in 1995; he later excepted a position with Madison County Department of Sanitation retiring in 2017 after over fifteen years of service.
First and foremost, Charles was a hard worker. He loved to spend time with his family on any occasion. He enjoyed playing cards, working with his brothers on many different projects, and playing games on the computer.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles H. and Sandra Cordell of East Syracuse, and William E. Cordell of Kirkville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara J. and Stephen Lee of Oneida, and Brenda L. and Frederick Lawrence of Lakeport; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Carl, and Lloyd Cordell.
In keeping with Mr. Cordell’s wishes there will be no public services. Interment will be in Saint Mary’s of the Assumption Cemetery of Minoa at the family's convenience. Arrangements are under the care of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Abraham House of Rome, NY, 417 North Washington Street, Rome, NY 13440.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Abraham House of Rome for the care and compassion that was displayed to Charles and his family throughout this difficult time.
