I met Charlie out in Kansas City as I was the Technical Service Rep for GE PLastics 1989 to 1992. Ending my 20 year career in 1993 to join M.A Hanna then shortly my own Company CRC Polymer Systems Inc, Sodus NY. (Retired)
Charlie and I spent six months together with me helping him to get accustomed to this strange new world. Charlie helped me technically as he was a trained professional and my training came from working 15 years in the bowels of GE Technology. He was book smart, while I was a different kind of smart if that was possible. Charlie came out to the wild West finding nothing had changed other than optics.
The wild west, was the wild west and half of Kansas actually most of Kansas did not like carpet baggers from the East, other than taking our money. Charlie walked into a Mash unit of misfits both in sales and technical but inherited some of the fastest growth the Kansas area had seen in years thanks to the efforts of outstanding Sales and Marketing people like Mark, Tom, Doug, Rob, our GM Kathy Hamilton, and our Manager John Morine. I remember memories of that period through glazed Salon eyes. I am sure I lived up to whatever rumours had spread about me as I could see the apprehension when Charlie arrived. He was gun ho, and did not hesitate to put his polished carrer into my face when we started having technical discussions. He found fault in this old broken down drunk with limited education and background and rightly asked "How the hell did you get this job?" " I said you will understand in about two weeks of traveling with me". I had worked with a lot of very intelligent people but was not prepared for the intellectual barrage that Charlie hit me with. I had to find a way to get this young kids respect, so I took him out to a client doing about 70 miles an hour over a dirt bumpy road to buy watermelons from the Amish. Theylooked at me more strangely than Charlie did, as I came out of the car in a three piece suit no shoes or socks because the AC on the car was failing and it was 110 degrees -F a relatively cold day in Kansas,
It was the most inhumane thing a company could do to an employee, but GE demanded the full press zoot suit to be worn on planes and at our customers. I survived by drinking myself into oblivion, while Charlie had a more leaned back approach other than his perspertation equal to mine. His first real technical test came at a customer who was having a filling problem with streaking at the gate causing the part to be rejected. I gave Charlie the parameters of the material and said I will be back in about three hours after I get back from a liquid lunch with the owner of the business. Well the temperature went from bad to worse and there was poor Charlie in a suit with no AC and in a injection molding facility where no one wore shirts including the women just bathing suit bras to be able to stand the 130 degree temps inside along those 500 degree presses. Charlie had 100 of parts lined up with a start and ending progression of moving the streak out of the gate and giving the best aesthetic seen to date on the tool. I looked at Charlie and said not bad, but not good enough. Charlie was infuriated, insulted, and just worn out from the heat, I said welcome to Kansas Charlie. He angrily retorted, well what the Hell would you do in this situation. Well God, or lots of beer gave me the answer as soon as I looked at the part. It was double gated for increased flow creating the knit line burning. Since we brought in a higher flow material I new a single gate would work. On the very next shot. I pulled a part cut the gate in half sticking it into the mold blocking one of the gates. The next shot came out perfect and Charlie just rolled his eyes back. I gained a lot of respect from that young man who was a constant friend the rest of my life. I always looked forward to seeing him at shows, and following his progression upwards in the companies he worked for . He had a warm friendly smile and you were always happy to see Charlie no matter what the circumstances. Before I left Kansas, Charlie would still banter with me as Charlie was a thinker and a good engineer, no answer was good enough unless you could explain it in the classical scientific approach taught from before Christ. I don't know if it was his approach or jealousy of not being where Charlie was at such a young age. My parting gift to Charlie was a car I had put an on order 3 months before. for my new company car. A nice Ford that was the color purple with red flares and glowed in the night making anyone who drove it to be immediately recognized as a Pimp. Charlie never forgave me for this, but still we would laugh and reminisce about all the fun we had and the relationships we created so GE could make the profits they desired. I am so very sad that Charlie is gone. I want his wife and children to know how great a man he really was. You may have never heard about me, but rest assured Charlie Burke could smell a Kansas country mile when Dave Saldo was coming in to town. May God be with you, I already know Charlie is with him, telling him about buying watermelons in some unknown town and the trauma we inflicted being a couple carpet baggers from the east
With my most sincere heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Charlie was and has always been a great person, someone who will be missed dearly

I knew Charlie from high school and we used to ride the bus together. He was a really great guy and his family should be very proud of all his accomplishments and all he did in his short life. This is an immense loss for his children and family, but he seemed to enjoy every possible moment he could with them. Sending condolences to all his family.

Charlie was a man of integrity and an authentic friend to many. He loved his children and always spoke proudly and lovingly of them. Though this earthly world has lost his physical presence, Charlie’s legacy of character and honor will continue to encourage others for generations to come as it is carried forward by his children, his family, and his friends. We are praying for you all for strength and comfort in your loss. Rest easy, Charlie. God bless.

I had the pleasure of working with Charlie for many years. We spoke most days. Charlie was not just someone that I worked with but a colleague that became a dear friend. I adored his sense of humour and can still hear his laughter. He was also a very caring soul. I will always cherish my memories of him.
My deepest sympathies during this time and keeping Charlie’s family and friends in my prayers.

Charlie was my first boss at Entec, and one of the first friends I ever met working for Ravago. I'll never forget the hours upon hours he'd take showing me around, helping me learn the job and who I needed to know. As well as the endless stories about past adventures, family, friends, crazy things he'd seen and done. Once I got to know his family I could also tell where his attention was most days. If there was an event coming up for his kids he was always ready to brag about them (in all the best ways). He never wanted to miss a moment of them growing up, and knew how to make the memories last.
Charlie always looked like he was ready to either cry or laugh - he wore those emotions openly and brought people into the joy of spending that time together. Whether it was a 5 minute passing conversation or a 5 hour dinner, he had an energy about him that made you realize how much he wanted to do. He wanted to be everywhere and experience everything, and I hope that he was able to try it all at least once...because I know that few people would have appreciated it more than Charlie could have.
I'm going to miss him dearly, but I'll carry his stories forever and won't miss a chance to tell anyone around me how much of an impact he made on my life.

Charlie was a beloved friend and coworker to all of us at Entec. He was a really bright and funny human being to work with .Charlie had a great education as valedictorian of his high school and a graduate of a rigorous academic institution as Lowell instititute.Entec has been blessed with many bright managers from that great school. He divorced his life tk his children and was so very proud of all their achievements.Scripture spoke of great individuals as Charlie in 1 Timothy 4:7”He fought the good fight; he finished the race and he did it with faith and courage”He inspired all of us with his fastidious penchant for analysis with reckless , impatient ,transaction seeking sales reps .
Always calm and rational to our profit seeking urgent ways while not getting testy.
He had great integrity and intimated to me that one of my reprobate customers sought a full credit for “so called” bad material; only to inform me they tracked down the supplier to re-purchase at a fire sale price. He was a dirty bird Paul.Yes Charlie and a different cat as well.
A great poet once wrote a poem: I think continually of those who were truly great:
“Born of the sun: they traveled a short while towards the sun and left the vivid air signed with their honor”
Thank you Charlie for the example of an examined and purposeful life of love and duty and service .

For Charlie’s children,
I’m deeply saddened by the sudden loss of your beloved father and my friend Charlie. The emptiness and pain felt by the loss of a dad is never easy and is one I’m also familiar with. You will remember it’s affects forever, but eventually, the lifetime of memories that you shared with your father will take precedence over anything else. I hope you take comfort in knowing that even though, he’s not with you in the physical form, he will always be with you. If you ever find yourselves in need of fatherly guidance, may I suggest reading The Book of Sirach also known as Ecclesiasticus. Written by a father to his son, it is a collection of wisdom filled teachings concerning various topics of life and applicable to all. I send to you my condolences and prayers for strength.

I worked with Charlie in Dallas as his mentor as a TDE when he first came into the field. We shared stories about riding 3 wheelers back then as I had 2 I used for hunting with my boys. He had a love for them and motorcycles. He learned fast and loved his work. Soon after that he left GE for a bigger better job. We kept in touch over the years but not as much as we should have. I could see from his FB posts that his children were his life and that he loved them very much. May he rest in peace .
