Obituary of William Peter Burton

CANASTOTA . . . William Peter Burton, 66, of Canastota, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 12, 1958, in Syracuse, the son of the late William R. and Besty (Barott) Burton. Peter lived in Wampsville and Canastota all of his life, graduating from Oneida High School in 1976, and later graduated from the Utica School of Commerce in Canastota in 2009. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976-1979. Peter worked for G4S Secure Solutions in Syracuse for 15 years, retiring in 2022. He was a member of the American Legion Charles Miller Post # 140 in Canastota, and the Oneida-Canastota Masonic Lodge # 270 F&AM. Peter enjoyed music, played the accordion, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are: his longtime companion, Jacqueline Hurley; his four children, Diane Burton and Kenyen Francis of Sherrill, William Andrew Burton and Alicia Harrington of Canastota, Taylor Burton of Sherrill, and Kylee Burton of Canastota; four grandchildren, Ella Burton, Khalen Francis, Aiyanna Oliver, and Austin Burton; as well as several cousins, and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the American Legion Charles Miller Post # 140, 325 S. Peterboro Street, Canastota. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota.
