Obituary of Edith I. (Campbell) West Allen
ONEIDA . . .
Edith I. "Betty" (Campbell) West Allen, 78, of 7327 Creek Road, Oneida, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 11, 1940, in Canastota, a daughter of the late George and Edythe (Teachout) Campbell.
Betty spent her early years in Canastota, attending the Canastota schools. She later lived in Orlando, FL for several years, moving to Oneida in 1990.
She was a business owner, together with her husband, owned and operated Ron Allen Trucking and Roman Roads Hauling.
Betty loved canning and cooking, and enjoyed meeting her friends for coffee and playing pitch.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star, and the Oneida Elks Club.
Betty married Ronald Allen in 1981. Ron died in 1990.
Surviving are: two sons, Thomas G. VanRiper and his fiancé, Shannon Dwyer, of Blossvale, and Michael G. West of Oneida; one daughter Faith West-Gorman and her husband, Jeffrey R. Gorman, of Clinton, NJ; one brother, Eugene "Cheech" Campbell of Sherrill; one sister, Edna "Pumpkin" Brown and her husband, Richard Matthews of Kirkville; seven grandchildren, Thomas R. VanRiper of Nicholville, NY, Daniel T. VanRiper of Oswego, Mitchell R. West of Clinton, NY, Hunter West of Oneida, Kambrie West of Oneida, Chance, Flynn, and Birch Gorman, all of Clinton, NJ; three great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was predeceased by a brother, George "Johnny" Campbell; and two sisters, Maude Cast, and Ola "Dunkin" Nicholson.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, following the calling hours. The Rev. Neil D. Coe will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation of CNY, 990 7th North Street, Liverpool, NY 13088, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
