Obituary of Mary T. Fusillo

CANASTOTA . . . Mary T. Fusillo, of 7077 Forbes Road, Canastota, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018, following a brief illness in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born on February 3, 1930, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Sam and Angela (Leonardi) Tornabene. Mary has lived in the Canastota all of her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1947. She later graduated from Alfred State College, and Upstate Medical University of Health Professions in Syracuse. She worked for many years as Chief Medical Technologist and Cytotechnologist at Oneida City Hospital and MDS Laboratories. On November 3, 1951, Mary and her husband, Vito A. Fusillo, were united in marriage and shared the loving vow for 49 years together until Vito's passing on April 8, 2001. A woman of faith, Mary was a parishioner at St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Casolwood Golf Course, and formerly of the Canastota Lionettes. She enjoyed Thursday afternoon Bridge with friends at the Canastota Library. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Teri Fusillo of Canastota; her daughter, Barbara Fusillo of Canastota; two grandchildren, Nicholas Fusillo and Cara Fusillo of Syracuse; her two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosina Patane of Canastota, and Josephine and Vincent DiGaspari of Rochester; two sisters-in-law, Rose and Sam Spuches of Liverpool, and Lois Fusillo of Canastota; three step-grandchildren, John and Mary Phraner, Christine and Bill Palmer, and Caitlin and Brian Rascelles; five step-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, special cousins, and friends. Mary was predeceased by a brother, James Tornabene; and two sisters, Freida Malfitano, and Nina LeBlanc. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, at St. Agatha's Church, 329 N. Peterboro Street, Canastota, where a funeral mass will be held. The Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes will officiate. Interment will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the J.
