Obituary of Joan M. DiVeronica

CANASTOTA . . . Joan M. DiVeronica, 85, of 3255 Seneca Turnpike, Canastota, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, following a brief illness. She was born on October 16, 1933, in Canastota, the daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy (Fritz) Marsh. Joan has lived in Canastota all of her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1951. She later graduated from Morrisville College with a Nursing Degree. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years, beginning her career at the former Lenox Memorial Hospital in Canastota, later working at the Oneida City Hospital, retiring in 1985. Joan was a parishioner at St. Agatha's Church in Canastota. She enjoyed traveling, camping, watching sports, especially the New York Yankees, and Tiger Woods, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Joan married John L. DiVeronica on November 7, 1953, in Canastota. Surviving besides her husband, John, are: one daughter, Betty Gail Cerio of Canastota; one son and daughter-in-law, John D. and Terri DiVeronica of Canastota; four grandchildren, Adrienne Cerio, Eric Cerio, Jake DiVeronica, and Alyssa DiVeronica; one sister, Sharon Eddy of Zephyrhills, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joan was predeceased by a brother, Daniel March. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. Deacon Adolph Uryniak of St. Agatha's Church will officiate. Interment will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, prior to the funeral, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
